Firefox in the Hills!

“Life’s not about arriving at a destination. Life’s about the journey and all the beautiful scenery along the way.”

Firefox Baby!

Do you like cycling? (ME with both hands up)

Do you like cycling so much that you want to cycle in the hills with greenery all around you, which makes you forget about your destination?

If yes, then this post is just for you!

If not, then still read it and get the feel of cycling in the hills.

On the first day, we did Paragliding and some exploring nearby our hotel. After the thrilling first day at Bir Billing, it was time to do justice with the second day too. So, after waking up late we researched about the nearby options to explore which can be covered within 5-6 hours. After some R&D, we decided to go to Sherabling Monastery. It was at a distance of 8 km from the Landing Site. We had two options, either to go via cab or rent a firefox and go on our own. For an Enthusiast like me, option 1 was boring. So we picked the Firefox for our next destination. We paid Rs 400 for 4 hours each and then we were given instructions on how to shift gears and apply brakes on the turns. We were all set with our helmets and water bottle to ride the 8 km distance to the Monastery.

Starting the Ride!

The route was quite simple but the road was not an easy one to ride on. We started off highly pumped up with excitement with the sun shining on us. After riding for about 500 m, there was an uphill where you had to lower your gear and paddle as fast as you can, if you want to cross it in one go. Sadly, my friends were not able to maintain the momentum and they decided to walk and carry the cycle with them. That was one moment when I could catch a breath while they were crossing the uphill. After that, the road was flat and you could ride while enjoying greenery on one side and hills on the other. We covered 5 km, that’s when the supreme power wanted to have some fun with us. Within a minute, the sunlight falling on our faces was replaced by silver clouds and it started drizzling. This weather was perfect to ride in the hills but after a quick shower of 5 minutes, the rain stopped while the clouds still maintained their presence. And soon, we reached the Monastery.

3 more Km to go!

The Entrance!

The Sherabling Monastery is a big one with a very strict Lion King guard. I couldn’t stop myself from clicking pictures with the guard. After playing around with him for a while, we moved inside the Monastery. The place has beautiful interiors, Chandeliers and a Big Statue which you can admire all day long. We were briefed by one of the monks who told us about the place. After exiting from the Monastery, you will get to see a big tree with stones kept on it which had something scribbled on them (I couldn’t understand the language).

The Statue!

Right next to the tree, you can see the Canteen. We ordered a Thukpa and masala noodles. Thukpa is a Tibetan noodle soup which is very light and the noodles are quite long. I opted for Chopsticks initially, but after struggling with the long noodles I gave up and started eating with a fork (My good old companion). The food that is served here is very light and healthy, which is perfect for people who are trekking here or coming via cycle. And the place is well maintained as well.

The Stones!

Right outside the Canteen, just when you are about to leave the Monastery, you can notice a basketball court on your right. Looking at the little Monks playing Basketball, I went back down the memory lane when I was their age, and we used to play outside and were carefree about things around us. When Homework was a burden for us and playing outside was a treat. Too many memories flashed in my head while looking at the little monks, but now it was time to head back to the landing site. We started our Firefox and started riding back. The weather on our way back was much cooler and the cool breeze was overwhelming.

The Little Monks!

Now that we covered the Monastery, it took us less time back to the landing site. Soon, while humming songs we reached the landing site and returned the cycles. The cycles were checked and then we rested for a while at the landing site. The landing site is a huge ground where people land after they are done with their Paragliding. The site is filled with paragliders, some getting pictures clicked and some taking their Paragliding video from the Paragliders. It was time for the sun to set and the view at that moment was something not to be missed. With the dark clouds on one side and Sun setting on other side, it was a treat to watch.

Clouds!

After the Sunset, it was time to catch our bus, and end the trip which was filled with experiences and stories to talk about. And that’s how a normal weekend was turned into an Adventure filled Trip.
